Initial information
Before the main appointment, we will ask you to complete questionnaires about your current experiences and relevant history.
These questionnaires contribute useful information, but they do not determine the outcome by themselves.
Adults seek an ADHD assessment for many different reasons.
You may have spent years struggling with attention, organisation, time, restlessness or impulsive decisions without understanding why. Perhaps the strategies that once helped you cope have become difficult to maintain. You may have recognised aspects of your experience in someone else or started wondering whether ADHD could explain patterns across your life.
An assessment considers these questions carefully. It explores both the areas you find difficult and the strengths, skills and strategies you have developed.
For some people, receiving a diagnosis brings relief, clarity and greater self-understanding. It may also help them identify practical adjustments and access appropriate support. Whatever the outcome, our aim is to provide an explanation that is clinically careful and useful to you.
ADHD is not simply about being distracted or physically restless.
It can affect how you begin and complete tasks, manage time, remember information, regulate emotions, organise daily life or respond to competing demands.
Some adults experience visible hyperactivity. For others, restlessness feels more internal. Many people have learned to mask their difficulties or rely on considerable effort, pressure and carefully developed systems to keep life on track.
During the assessment, we may explore:
We also consider whether other experiences or difficulties might provide a fuller explanation. The purpose is to reach a careful conclusion, not to assume ADHD before the assessment begins.
Before the main appointment, we will ask you to complete questionnaires about your current experiences and relevant history.
These questionnaires contribute useful information, but they do not determine the outcome by themselves.
Where possible, we will ask someone who knows you well to complete an informant questionnaire. This could be a partner, relative, close friend or another person familiar with your day-to-day life.
Their responses offer another perspective and may help us understand patterns across different settings or stages of your life.
If there is no one you can ask, that is okay. It will not prevent you from having an assessment. We can discuss other sources of information and agree on an appropriate way to proceed.
The main appointment usually lasts between 60 and 90 minutes.
This is an in-depth clinical conversation about your experiences now and during childhood. We will explore how relevant patterns have developed and how they affect different parts of your life.
You can ask questions, request a break or let us know if you need information presented differently.
Once all the information has been considered, we will explain the outcome clearly and give you an opportunity to ask questions.
An assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis. If the findings do not support ADHD, we will explain how the conclusion was reached and discuss any other recommendations arising from the assessment.
You will receive a detailed written report explaining the information considered, the assessment outcome and recommendations relevant to your needs.
Recommendations may include practical adjustments, psychological support, ADHD-informed coaching or further discussion with another suitably qualified service.
We work with an ADHD coach and can provide a referral if coaching is something you would like to explore. We can also signpost or refer you to other healthcare services, specialist organisations and charities where appropriate.
Our assessment clinicians do not prescribe medication or provide medical advice. If you would like to consider medication, we can give you guidance about where to seek support from an appropriately qualified medical professional.
A follow-up appointment can be arranged if you would like more time to discuss your report, ask questions or consider your options.
Your report is for you, and you can decide whether you want to share it with anyone else.
It may be useful when discussing support or reasonable adjustments with:
Depending on your needs, adjustments might include clearer written instructions, changes to the working environment, additional structure, reduced distractions, movement breaks, flexible arrangements or assistive technology.
Each employer, education provider, funding body or healthcare service has its own requirements. Your report may provide helpful supporting evidence, but it does not guarantee that a particular adjustment, service, funding application or referral will be approved.
Usually 60 to 90 minutes, with breaks or presentation adjustments discussed individually.
Questionnaires, informant information and clinical review contribute to the complete assessment.
The complete fee is confirmed before booking.
Online appointments are the primary format. Any face-to-face requirements and associated costs will be discussed in advance.
A clinician-led guide to the assessment stages will be added after filming.
